This assignment came about as a result of a guide book  called 'Spirit in Stone'   It is produced by Inspired North East with support from The Church of England Dioceses of Durham and Newcastle and English Heritage published in 2013. 

The guide lists over 120 historic churches located in the North East of England that people can  visit. It includes  maps, locations and basic information about the the churches. I got my copy from St Lawrence's Church in Warkworth about six years ago. There is no charge for this guide.

 Unfortunately at the time of writing this web page (Dec 2024) I'm not sure if the guide is still available as both website addresses in the guide do not work.  It is a very well put together guide and deserves to be out there for people to enjoy.

I had already visited a number of the churches in the guide before deciding to record my visits on camera as a Photographic Assignment, and am currently revisiting those ones as well as some new to me.  I hope to include some churches which are not in the guide.
